Interviews

As part of my project, I wanted to be able to glean wisdom from other teachers in my school about the ways in which they teach to develop mathematical mindsets in their classrooms. I got responses from various grade-level teachers and I was able to sit down with them and have some great conversations about math in their classrooms. The interviews were recorded and transcribed and you will find edited and clarified versions of these interviews below.

The questions I posed to teachers were:

• What grade do you teach?

• What do you believe is your students' overall feeling about the subject of math? Do they tend to be engaged in the subject?

• What do you do to engage your students and help them develop mathematical mindsets?

• What are some obstacles that you have had to overcome in teaching math to your students?

• What is your advice to a new teacher who will teach math?
